Ja'far Railton
Psychotherapist
I am a UKCP-registered psychotherapist offering psychotherapy services for adult individuals. As a Muslim revert, I receive a lot of enquiries from Muslims who are seeking a culturally and religiously supportive space for self-exploration, but by no means am I restricted to working with Muslim clients or those from a Muslim background; rather, I welcome enquiries from anyone who is seeking to understand themselves, their connections to others, and their relation to the society they live in. I would say my hope is that through the therapeutic experience clients can develop their potential to live life more fully - to become more fully alive.
My approach is intercultural and psychoanalytic, which enables me to work with issues of culture and difference while addressing questions of identity and relationships, and common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, and feelings of isolation. In my work with clients the importance of unconscious conflicts and past experiences is explored, linking these to current distress, and working them through.

Areas of Expertise
Intercultural Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
I hold an MSc in Intercultural Therapy from UCL, delivered in partnership with Nafsiyat Intercultural Therapy Centre, where I continue to be a professional member. My work in intercultural psychoanalytic psychotherapy focuses on understanding how culture, difference, and identity shape mental health and wellbeing.
I offer individual psychotherapy, meeting once or twice a week, to support you with challenges such as anxiety or depression, while also exploring how cultural differences may influence your relationships, identity, and self-esteem. For those looking for more focused support, I provide short-term counselling over 8–12 weekly sessions. Feel free to book a session or get in touch to find out more—I’m happy to answer any questions.
My online services are available worldwide, except for residents of the US and Canada due to insurance restrictions.
